I have recently got a Leo 2 running but i am having trouble with the com network. I was able to autoaddress my 9 modules about a week ago and just the other day I lost communication to the devices. The com LED on my Leo does not blink at all. during power up it is continuously on but when the program starts running it shuts off. Active LED on LEO flashs 4 times. When i go to auto address the com led is constant on. Common power supply for all modules. I have changed out multiple com chips. The modules have the com led constant on and a slow active blink.

I do have a long run of cable to get to all of the modules approx 1500'. I thought I read somewhere 2K ft was the max. I disconnectted the majority of the cable after the first device to see if i could comunicate to that device, nothing happened.

Any help would be appreciated, I told my boss this system would be cool in our shop so I dont want to disapoint.

Try connecting just one module (the one you want as module #1) to the Ocelot and try autoaddressing. If the coms LED is still on solid, try replacing the comm chip in the Ocelot and/or the module.

I tried replacing the chips with some spare unused chips I had at home with no change. I will pull some from my working system at home just to make sure i do have good chips.

Should the com led on the ocellot be blinking with no modules attached?

Should the remote modules com LED be constantly on?

Is there anything upstream of the RS485 chip that can go wrong without any major external wiring errors taking place?

With no modules attached, the comms LED on the Ocelot should blink a few times when it is powered up as it scans for modules, then it should stay off because it doesn't find any.

Problems with comms other then the wiring or a bad chip is very rare.

I hooked up a new unit and got the same results. I tried another pair of wires in the cable and was able to start communicating after a restart. After some time when i would go into Cmax I would only be able to see some of the modules. After a restart of the controller the modules would show up. I let it run for the night and when i came in the next morning the screen was "rolling" lines from the top to the bottom. I powered down for a few hour disconnected RS 485 and no change. CMAX can no longer access the controller.

That is really unusual. Have you tried a different power supply? How exactly are you powering the Leopard and the 9 modules (and what module types are they)?

I am using a Altronix AL400ULXB selected for 12V. 8 of the modules are the SECU16 and there is one speak easy.

I took my Ocellot from home and installed it in my problematic system at work and everything seems to be working fine for now. I installed one of the Leporards in my home and it works correctly.

There must be some variable in my system at work that the Leopard doesnt like. Is the Ocellot more robust than the Lepoard? Can I make the Ocellot the master and the Leo a slave?

What is the current rating of the power supply? It should be at least 1.5 amps for what you have connected to it. The two controllers are both equally reliable. You would need to make more tests (or over a longer period) to really determine what is wrong.
