Well, another lazy rainy day here in Port Perry - not much to do in the rain - yawn...

But wait!

Why is my dining room light on? A surge perhaps?

No problem, my trusty Palm Pad will turn it off in a flash - or not...

Well, as one thing leads to another, I find my whole house is behaving badly!

Nothing is happening as it should and it completely ignores my requests! This has never happened to me in the 17 years I've used HA!

The X10 monitor in CMAX shows some commands just don't happen and others wait up to 60 seconds before being repeated multiple times. Maybe my Executor got corrupted? Maybe my program?

My Zeus monitor makes even less sense!

Perhaps my TW523 is zapped?

Time to pull out my trusty Elk ESM1 X10 Signal Meter.

Ah ha!

Look all that noise - 2 bars steady, 4 occasionally.

So, I guess I need to start unplugging the primary suspects.

CM11A first - not the problem.
TW523 - nope, not it.
RR501's next, 1, 2, 3, 4 of them - noise still there.
BSR X10 controller in the bedroom - still no joy.

Ah ha - there's another one of those guys in the pool shed for turning on the pool pump, let me see...

No more X10 noise on the Elk!

Plug everything else back in and, my house is back to normal!

Hmm, I wonder if the water dripping out of that BSR controller had anything to do with it?

...and stay tuned for the next episode of [sudden organ music] Bad House Rising!

Well, that Elk meter just paid for itself again, didn't it?

Yah - it doesn't get out of its box much but when it does it sure earns its keep!

btw - I dried out that old BSR controller for a couple of days, plugged it in and it's working fine again - go figure!

Guess it's time to replace the shingles on the pool shed roof...
