This thing sure doesn't cost much to build. I didn't have the RS part #s, so ordered from Mouser. I ordered 5 of everything and the order still only came to .80. Then the postage was 4.50.
Now, if I get around to build it all will be well.
Is there really any need to test it before hooking it up? I usually just shove the throttles ahead and assume the runway is long enough.

But then you wouldn't get to see the smoke!

Isn't that half the fun of this wonderful hobby of ours?

FYI,
I reversed the Diode the first time around! So, yes I want to test it first!!
Mine is done and I tested. Ready for the install:)
But, I need to squeeze the MP3 server and the monitor into my stereo closet.
Maybe this weekend!
Thanks all,

Below is a link to my Ocelot/IRA-2/Girder system. I thought others would like more info on how to use X10 and the Ocelot to automate a music system, with an MP3 computer connected.
http://toddjreed.home.comcast.net/ToddsHAproject.pdf
From my wall keypads I can now control my stereo system, and start MP3 playlists on the computer!
Many thanks to other members for the many tips and interface circuit to interface the Xantech IR system.

Amazingly enough, I got my Ocelot to Xantech circuit completed according to the above diagram.
I guess it works. No smoke, IR emitters blink brighter than before, nothing has stopped working.

I built the circuit using a 2N4401 on the 5v side and a 2N3906 on the 12v side. My first surprise was that it worked the firt time I plugged it into my Ocelot.
My second surprise was that sometime the second day the Ocelot locks up, both IR and X10. If I unlug the IR Amp, things start working again. I have double checked eveything in the circuit and I beleive I have it all correct.
Any idea what may be causing this?

Thanks Guy, mismatched grounds was causing my problem. I replaced an IR Blaster with the Xantech, I disconnected the positive from the power supply to the blaster but not the ground.

The Russound is +12v, so I assume I could use the 1N914 diode and connect to the Xantech "input" and "ground" on the right hand side of the diagram? If I connect the Leopard as well, then I have ADI coming in at 5v, amp'd to 12v, then add the ABUS IR, then out to Xantech hub!
Any issue with grounds, coming from the different power supplies?

To all,
I've built the circuit to connect the Ocelot and Xantech devices together to the best of my ability, but unfortunately, nothing I've tried to test it appears to work properly. Please bear in mind that I am a novice with no "official" training in electronics or schematic diagrams, just what I've researched on the web and in books. There are probably some basic concepts that I haven't mastered yet, so be kind.
Anyway, I had fun building the circuit, but haven't been able to make it work despite checking the component layout multiple times and testing for any shorts between connections. Could someone please explain a few tests I can perform (in plain English, please) to make sure I haven't done something obviously wrong on this circuit. I would be glad to post pictures if would help.
Thanks in advance,
Chris
