Good morning All,

Well I received my repaired Ocelot, so we are back in business.

Since I haven't used my system in quite a while, I have a question concerning voltages.

Am I right in assuming that removing a jumper on an input, makes the input suitable for an analog signal.

Now in order to supply voltage to an Analog Sensor, again I assume I obtain this said voltage from the Power I/O (pins) located besides COMM A on the SECU 16.

Now since the voltage provided to the Power I/O, (pins) is equal to the voltage provided by the power supply, in my case 12 Volt DC, I need to reduce the voltage to the Analog sensor to 5 volts, do I do so by installing a voltage regulator to 5 V between the Power pin and the Analog input.

Thanks

Dom

Yes, removing the jumper lets the input "float" to measure an analog voltage.

As for taking the power from the power input pins, not quite. The problem is that the power input pins have no common ground connection to the module's input "common". This is because there is a bridge rectifier across the power input pins (the modules can be powered by either AC or DC).

I have never tried this but if you power the modules with 12V DC then in theory, connecting the negative side of that power source to the input "common" terminal merely shorts out the diode in the bridge rectifier that would otherwise be between them, and no harm should occur. You would then be able to, as you say, put in a voltage regulator like a 7805 to produce the +5 needed to power your sensor.

Guy,

In that case, am I better off supplying 5 Volts to the analog sensors, from an independant power source, where 5v+ and Ground can be provided.

Well yes, that would be the best approach.

Good Afternoon Guy,

I have uploaded a pic. of what I believe would be the correct set-up.

Please correct me if wrong, hopefully the pic will come out.

That link is not working for me. Maybe you need to be logged into that site?

Guy,

See if this works better.

Yes that is correct, but you also need to connect the 5 volt power supply's negative terminal to one of the SECU16's "common" inputs.

So I connect the negative lead from the power supply, to any of the common terminals on the SECU 16, instead of the ground on the analog device, or in addition too.

In addition to.

That's why it's called "common", so that that the power supply, analog device, and SECU16 all have a common ground reference.

Guy,

Were can I get a description of each parameter from 0 to 63 on the SECU-16.

Thanks

Thanks Guy for the info.

I do have the info. you referred me too.

What I am looking for is the following.

When retriving the module parameters, 63 are mentioned, and only 17 are described in the documentation, what are the other 47 ?

The bus protocol provides for being able to set and retrieve up to 64 parameters (0 to 63) but the actual modules, depending on their design and purpose only use a few of these.

I got you.

In other words if I had 2 or more SECU 16, more of the parameters would be used.

Thanks Guy

P.S. We will have to arrange meeting one day.

No, each module can have up to 64 parameters. So if you had two or more SECU-16s then you would see the same 17 parameters for each one.

Dom,

No, it means that each module would only produce results for the parameters it reports. In the Retrieve Module Parameter grid in C-Max, parameters 1-17 for module 1 would read beside module at address 1, parameters 1-17 would read beside module 2 and so on.
