I have some PIR motion sensors connected to a SECU16I. I was wondering if there is a way to record the date and time when the sensor is tripped?

Where would you want to store the date and time? Sent as a serial string (and to what?) Other?

What I am interested in is the record (date and time when the event occurred). How that could be done and where the information would be available and the mechanisms to do that is what I do not know how to do.

Well the current date and time are available separately as 16 bit values that you can capture on the fly when events happen. Look at the "work variable" definitions for the "IF Time of Day", "IF Month" and "IF Day of Month" instructions. The usual way to do this is to keep updating some designated variables with the date and time on every loop:

IF Time of Day is < 2359 //store current time in Variable 90
THEN Load Data to Variable 90
ELSE Load Data to Variable 90

IF Day of Month is < 32 //store current day in Variable 91
THEN Load Data to Variable 91

(and any others you want)

And then do something with those variables when the triggering event occurs:

IF Module #1 SECU16I Input #0 Turns ON
THEN (copy/send string/whatever) based on Variable #90
THEN (copy/send string/whatever) based on Variable #91

and so on.
