I recently purchased a new/old stock (never installed) Leopard on eBay. When I powered it up, I just get a flickering screen - no logo/start message. Is that normal?

I connected it via standard serial port to a PC running Windows XP. I bring up the "Controller Access" window OK, but the Leopard doesn't communicate and I eventually get a "Lost Connection" message. Did I buy a brick or am I just doing something wrong?

Thanks.

Does the Active LED (the topmost one) blink? If it blinks once, three or four times every few seconds then the cpu is running ok. It could be a bad MAX202 chip or something like that. Do you know that your PCs serial port is otherwise working ok?

No, the Active LED doesn't blink at all. I've tried 2 PCs (with known good comm ports) and have not been able to connect with the device.

In that case the cpu is not running at all, and certainly won't connect to the PC. One frequent cause of this, especially when the unit has been shipped, is that the cpu board has come loose. Open it up and see that the small separate circuit board is well seated on the connector holding it to the main board. You can even try prying it off a bit and then seat it back on firmly. Then try powering it up again and observe the Active LED for a blink pattern.

Thanks, Guy. Are you referring to the small board that sits off the back of the unit, connected by what appears to be a hard drive connector? I pulled that board off and reseated it, but still no Active LED activity.

Yes, that's the one. Hmm, that doesn't look too good. I'm wondering if maybe the flash chip might be bad. Try sending an email to adiinfo@appdig.com and include a link to this thread, and ask what they might suggest you do.

I've emailed them 3 times - not a single response. Is Applied Digital still in business?
