Adjust programming for newer X-10 switches?

I have two side-by-side WS467 X10 wall switches operating lights on opposite sides of a carport for more than a decade. Last year a storm destroyed one, and I replaced it with what appeared to be a re-designed model WS467 (with bigger house/unit dials)
Even when set to the same house and unit code, it appears the newer switch "lags behind" the older when dimming, i.e., appear to require more dim commands to match the brightness of the other.
So I replaced the other old wall switch, and now they both behave the same, but my existing Ocelot program is hosed because the dimmers dont dim as much as before.
What changed? There are still 16 steps of dimming resolution, right? Im OK with re-writing the CMAX program, but it seems the rules have changed -- or am I missing something?
Edited by Patric (07/25/10 10:09 AM) Edit Reason: (I posted this before I found a more appropriate category, so apologies for the duplication -- though this was more Ocelot specific)

The "16 steps of dimming resolution" are a rather vague concept in the X10 brand devices. Relative dims have always been rather iffy to evaluate.
You still cant do Absolute Dims with a WS467, can you?

No, the basic X10 products have never supported the absolute dim commands.
At the risk of a product endorsement, is there anything comparable in price to the basic X-10 WS, or am I going to have to pay $50-100 for a wall switch?

I have a house full of Leviton HCM06 which can handle 600 watt loads and a few HCM10 which can handle 1000 watt loads. They have preset dim capability in which the light comes at the set light level. No ramp up or ramp down. They also are scene capable in which all the lights in the group come on simultaneously at the desired light level (no one light at a time). They do not require a neutral wire and have a remote (MS00R-10) for 2 or 3 way applications.
Smarthome which is usually one of the more expensive outlets has them on sale with free shipping.

If you have other WS467 switches around the house of the same age as the one you replaced, have you tried using one of those to pair it up with your other working one? If they both dim to similar levels, you could then relocate your newer one to where you took it.
I cant depend on cannibalizing the older model switches to solve this problem, because they will eventually fail the same way the one I had to replace did, and it would just be like re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
When X10 redesigned the wall switches, they changed the behavior of them to the point where automation programs (like Ocelot) written for the older switches no longer work properly.
I was hoping to find someone who has documented those changes so I could "convert" my c-max program into something workable again.
