I am using an ocelot and rly8-xa straight out of the box to accept commands from a program via rs-232 to control the relays. The comm between the two is not consistent. I get 5 to 10 seconds of rapid blinking com lites and then it stops for 3 - 5 seconds. Every so often I get the IR lite and the active light binking 4 times indicating the address. I don't understand what's interfering with the communications. I was advised about flourescent lighting interference, even tried operating in the dark. Is there a way turn off the IR mode? and make the communication between the two modules consistent? Thanks.

That almost sounds like normal comms (usually about 8 to 10 seconds of quick blinks, and pauses of 1 or 2 seconds). This might vary a bit with the number and types of modules that you have. If you suspect a real problem, try terminating the comms line at the far end with a 150 ohm resistor across it.

I forgot to add that the system is missing commands being sent from the PC. Normally everytime the computer program sends a change relay command, it happens, but lately now that the comm lites are erratic, the relay module is not responding as required. The 3 units already in operation that are operating correctly have comm lites that blink rapidly and constantly without pauses. I am only using 1 Ocelot and 1 RLY8-XA. Will the resistor still help. Support mentioned 9VDC power for the rly8 is a must, what's you're take on that?

Try the resistor and see if it makes a difference.

The 9VDC power source helps in reducing the heat buildup inside the RLY8XA module. But make sure it has enough power to support all relays being turned on. If it is rated 800 mA or higher you should be ok.
