Hi there,

I have a couple of PIRs that I want to connect both to a Secu16-i and an Elk-M1 Gold alarm central.

Both require a 1K ohm resistor between the contact and the ground, so everything seems to be OK in regards to that.

Is it a bad idea to connect both (secu and M1) to the same PIR? I am not much of a hardware guy and I don't want to end up frying any of the modules because I am wiring them together.

Thank you in advanced!

I cannot see that working properly. The alarm input is probably putting out 12 volts across the input (divided by the internal pullup and the external End of Line resistor) while the SECU16 input is trying the same thing but with +5 volts.

What you might try is maybe divide up the Elk's external resistor into two 470 ohm resistors in series instead, so it would create a 0 to +3 volt signal across the first resistor, the one connected to common. You could then wire that across a SECU16 input jumpered for analog mode (jumper removed) but still intepret it as a supervised input. You will also want to make sure that there is not common ground between the Elk and the Adicon systems, or establish a common ground between them by powering the SECU16 with +12 vdc with +12v going to one PWR input and and ground to one of the input "common" pins.

Make sure that the Elk is indeed looking for an external 1K resistor. I thought is was 2K or 2.2K. If it is, then use two 1K resistors instead to make the coltage divider.

Guy... thank you for the prompt reply.

Unfortunately, your language goes well beyond what I am willing to try to make this work.

My second option is to use a spare secu-16 I have and do some coding so that whenever a dry contact is detected, I close a relay which is connected to an Elk's contact.

While this has the drawback that the Alarm would depend on the Adicon System to work well, I have found the modules to be extremely reliable over the years (with no need to reset the Ocelot in over 4 years), and I guess this solution is safer than the first one.... ?

Thanks again!
