Hopefully this will be an easy fix but here goes.

Ocelot has been working for the last couple of years with no problems until early this morning. I noticed that HomeSeer has lost comms with the Ocelot.

Looked at lights on the Ocelot and found:

Ocelot
Active - off
Comms - on (solid)
X10/IR - on (solid)

Tested Ocelot power supply: 11.2 VAC
Power cycled Ocelot...... no change.

Installed my spare Ocelot (good to have spares) and eveything works perfectly including comms with HomeSeer.
Lights

Ocelot
Active - Blinks on/off 4 times
Comms - off
X10/IR - on (solid)

So my home aautomation system is back on line and the WAF as back were it should be.

I hope that with a solid red comm light that it will easy to isolate and repair.
TIA for any help

Jim

Check the +5 volts inside the unit. Use your voltmeter to check the output of the 7805 regulator. It should be very close to +5.00 volts. Also look for any sign of a blown tantalum capacitor. These are the orange blob looking things. Compare the look of them against the ones in your good Ocelot.

Guy,
Thanks for the quick response;
I checked the 7805 regulator= +5.46volts

I only see the two caps inside one is 1000uf (C10) located behind the 7805 regulator and the other is 100uf (C17) located on the right side of the Active LED. Both cap look ok, no bulging and look the same in comparing with my working Ocelot.

As for the orange blob looking thing I don't see that on the board.

Thoughts?

Thanks

The caps you are referring to are the electrolytic "cans", and are rarely a problem. A few past cases of pwer problems were with the smaller (about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch long) tantalum caps, which are blob shaped and usually orange. I don't have a picture in front of me but I seem to remember 2 or 3 of those in an Ocelot. Compare the look of those in both Ocelots. Also, the 5.64 volts seems rather high... Could you compare that against the same reading taken in your other Ocelot?

Just an update,
Called ADI Tech Support this morning; they had me swap out the big chip (with OCELOT58 sticker) which is located on the right side of the big z-chip with the one out my working spare Ocelot.

I wish a remembered the name of this chip but tech support said this chip sometimes get corupted. Anyway putting this chip in from my spare unit fixed my problem; my Ocelot is back online.

I ordered a replacment chip from ADI.

Thanks Guy for all your help.

Jim
