Hi there, am new to the forum, having just had an Ocelot controller installed for a mixture of LD11- and AD10-modules driving the lights in my extension. I've had some success in playing with the C-Max software but would appreciate help with the following, as this is completely new for me.

I'd like to find the best way of setting multiple LD11 modules to turn on their lights to a pre-set %dim level, but simultaneously, not one after the other. At present I've tried the following:

IF Action
THEN Transmit X10, K - 1
THEN Transmit X10, K - 2
THEN Transmit X10, K - Bright(22), 6 time(s)

which does work for a soft dimmed start for the lights on modules K1 and K2. That's fine if the lights are starting from off, but if switching from another scene this sort of code has limitations.

I have tried setting up a Leviton Group via the "Send Leviton X10 Commands" in the controller menu, but although the modules respond to individual Leviton commands in this menu, they do not work as a Leviton group.

An individual module command such as

THEN Set X-10 House K / Unit 1, to: 25%

works just fine.

What I'd like to achieve is something like

address K1 and K2,....
THEN Set K / to: 25%

I noticed in the list of Transmit commands there are Preset Dim (0) and Preset Dim (1) instructions, which I've tried without success. I could not find anything in the manual to tell me how to set values for these parameters.

So, is there a way of achieving simultaneous dimming to a common %dim level that's robust across scene changes? I'd really appreciate any advice.

Thanks,

Adam.

Ah, the fine art of dimming!

As you have found out, there are basically 3 types of dimming:

1- The "relative" dim commands supported by the basic X10 switches and dimmable modules. You can address several modules on the same house code and then dim or brighten them together with one or more dim commands. But this type of dim only works from whatever brightness level the module happens to be at.

2- The direct dim commands ("individual module command" you referred to above) that lets you set a specific address to a percentage of full brightness that you want. This uses the X10 "Preset Dim" command, as you have noticed in the Single X10 command list. Many X10 modules made by companies other then "X-10" themselves support this command, such as Switchlinc, PCS, Leviton. Handy command, but only works with one address at a time.

3- Leviton "Scenes". The fanciest of the dim commands. Uses X10 Extended Code commands to create scenes that can include a mix of X10 addresses (but all on the same house code) and a variety of dim levels for each one, and can then all be set simultaneously with a singe Extended Code command that tells them to go to scene number (x) that was previously set up. Only a few non-Leviton brand switches support these commands. This must be the reason your switches don't respond if it doesn't appear to work. To be sure you would need to contact the company that makes your switches and ask if they support Leviton scene commands.

One thing I don't follow is the Preset Dim (0) and Preset Dim (1) commands. What is the use of these in practice?

Adam.

Those commands were originally used to set a light to one of 32 light levels (Preset Dim 0 for the first 16 levels and Preset Dim 1 for the other 16). Many non-X10 brand switches support this, such as PCS, Switchlinc, etc. Later on, other uses were introduced for these commands, such as setting the desired temperature or getting the current room temperature from a RCS thermostat.
