I was wondering if anyone could suggest a circuit to detect the status lights on my Dish receiver.
I need to detect if if the thing is active or not. I am a lame electronics guy but can do some rudimentary soldering.

I was planning on hooking up some sort of sensor on one of the analog input ports of my SECU16-I but don't have a clue what to use to detect the light or how to physically hook it up.

Thanks;
Don

I think doing it with an analog signal may be more difficult than doing it with a digital signal. You can readily buy photocells designed to turn lights on and off that have three wires two of them are normal power and the third gets powered when the photocell sees light.

Of course one way you could do it with an analog signal is to use one of the light detecting Bobcats. This would obviously be more expensive but would give you the analog signal you're looking for.
