Garbage ascii

I'm trying to do something that should be pretty simple - learning 42 ir codes and creating 42 ascii messages. Program simply transmits a specific ascii message for each received ir. Problem is, all the messages have garbage tagged on the front end, i.e. hearts, spades, clubs, smiley-faces, etc. I've tried everything I can think of, and nothing changes. I'm running the current version of C-Max on an old CPU-XA - could that be the problem? And if it is, is there a way to get an older version of the software for the CPU-XA that would work reliably for this application? Thanks in advance....

Thanks a bunch Guy! 17 was set to 1, so I set it to 0 and it appears to work just fine now. This is for a large whole-house a/v distribution system that we're installing tomorrow, so your timely reply is greatly appreciated - thanks again!

One more question for you - I had to re-learn one of the 42 ir codes. When you exit out of the learn function, it asks if you want to save the learned ir to disk. If you answer yes at that point, does it re-save the entire ir file, or just the one it just learned? In other words, will the file on disk then contain everything it did plus the new code, or just the one it just finished learning? I did find that by not saving it, param 17 got set back to a 1 - kind of strange, I thought. At least I know the fix now.

Thanks again for the quick response, and yes, I'm only accessing it with C-Max.

Guy - just an interesting side note. I went ahead and saved the ir file. When it was done I checked param 17 and it was set back to 1 again. Not a big deal cuz I'll probably not touch the programming in this one again, but just thought you might be curious. Thanks for your help.
