I have a Leopard I that was working fine until a nearby lightning strike occurred. Normally if a nearby lightning strike occurs, recycling the power is all that is required to return it to normal operation. However, this time the program failed to load (only 3 flashes of the Active light). The Comms light was flashing rapidly and all of the modules were communicating normally.
I attached the Leopard I to my computer and successfully loaded the program (4 flashes). But the X10/IR light was not illuminated and X10 did not function. The X10/IR light does blink red when it receives and IR signal.
I tried several times to reload the executive, but each time after a few seconds I get the “Lost Connection” message. Any help in solving this problem would be appreciated. Thanks

This could be caused by a corrupted flash chip. Is it still flashing 4 times or is it back to 3 (or 1) flashes after having tried to reload the executive?

I can load my program and get 4 blinks of the Active light and everything works except for X10. When my motion sensors are tripped the Speak Easy announcements operate, etc. I do not use the IR capability but the X10/IR blinks red in response to IR signals. If I try to load the executive, I get the “lost connection” reply and the Active light no longer blinks 4 times, but only 3 times and I have to reload the program to get 4 blinks again.

It's unusual that you are able to load a C-Max program but not the executive. It does look like the flash chip might be corrupted in some odd kind of way. I suggest you send an email to adiinfo@appdig.com and mention this problem.

In C-Max, click comms, comms setup. The Setup window will appear. In the middle of that window will be a setting for Current Directory. What is the path below that?

If it is anything other than c:\program files\ADI\adicon2500, either re-install C-Max or copy the flash512.bin file to the directory in folder pointed to under your current directory shown here.

As far as just your X-10 not orking, try another power line interface (TW523 or PSC05).

Thanks Kevin and Guy for your posts.
I reinstalled Cmax and now I can load both the executive and my program.

However, the X10 problem still exists. The X10/IR light does not illuminate green on the Leopard. I swapped the Leopard I with a spare Ocelot that I have and everything (including X10) works just fine. The X10/IR light on the Ocelot illuminates green. So my PSC05 works fine.

It appears something X10 related has failed in my Leopard I. Any ideas what that might be and how it might be fixed?

Since you also have an Ocelot handy, try taking the IR/X10 PIC chip from the Ocelot and use it to replace the same chip in the Leopard. If this makes the Leopard's X10 functionality come back, then you will know that the problem is the PIC chip.

The PIC is the long, narrow chip near the center of the Ocelot's board and it has a label on it.

Don't do that. The Ocelot PIC and the Leopard PIC are not interchangeable. Different code in each.

It is very likely the pic on the Leopard 1 though. You can order that chip and replace it in the Leopard. It is socketed.

The leopard has two chips (both have labels) that are the same size as the one from the Ocelot. Which one of the Leopard chips do I remove?

Hmmm, are you sure about that Kevin? I've done that a few times for testing and it seemed ok.

The Leopard has two PIC chips. One is the touchscreen PIC and you need to leave that one alone. The label of the IR/X10 chip should have the firmware version on it, such as "58".

But wait until Kevin comes back with a response about the compatibility between the Ocelot's and Leopard's IR/X10 PIC chips, since he would know for sure if this is ok to do or not. Better safe then sorry.

It would be the one along side the RJ-11 jack.

Well, to be honest, I've never checked it (never had a reason to). The programs are different between the two chips. But, just to be sure, we tested it. It's working but not real reliably. Kind of seems hit and miss.

Finally got the new PIC today. Installed it and everything works fine. Thanks Guy and Kevin for your help.
