Here's one that is just really, really strange. Maybe some one else has seen this. All of my projects, with bitmap icons, were in a folder called "current projects." When I built my new computer, I backed up the folder "current projects" on to an external hard drive.
Recently, I upgraded from Leo 1's to Leo 2's and needed to download my programs to them. Using the new computer, I accessed the folder named "current projects" on the external hard drive, now plugged into the new computer. To make a long story short, the Leo's did not like a couple of my bitmaps, they only showed up as white boxes. What's kind of odd is that one of the bitmaps is used on 3 separate Leo screens - shows fine on 2 of them but a white box on the third.
I tried a bunch of things and after a while decided to hook up the old computer. Using the old computer, I accessed my files on the external hard drive, now plugged into the old computer. I downloaded the files to the 2 Leo's using the old computer and my problem was fixed.
Thinking I was losing my mind, I repeated this several times using the old, then the new computer. Same problem each time using the new computer, fixed each time using the old computer. Both units are running CMAX V2.00e3.
So I'm glad I've resolved my problem but I don't want to hook up the old computer every time I make a simple little change to my program. Any ideas? I'm thinking maybe when I get some time I'll re-install CMAX on the new machine.
Thanks, Chris

Guy,
Yeah, this one is so far out there it just blows me away. The old computer has the serial ports on the motherboard. The new computer has serial ports on a PCI card. I'm going to go thru it again tomorrow, changing computers to see if the problem duplicates. Maybe I'll re-load CMAX on the new machine as well. Thanks, Chris

Checking the port settings on the new machine:
9600 bps Data bits 8 Parity none Stop bits 1 Flow control none none
I'll compare to the old machine tomorrow

Hmmm - my laptop is also successful at downloading my files and icons into my Leo's. So, the newly build computer must be the problem. In device manager, I'm noticing Windows provides the driver for the com port on my laptop. Think the same is true on my old computer. The driver for the PCI serial port on the new build is proprietary. So maybe it's the fact it's a PCI com port or maybe it's the driver - not sure which. I'm thinking about buying another com port plug in from a different vendor to play around with.

Update on this problem. I'm thinking some peculiarity of the chipset on my PCI serial card and associated drivers might be the problem. The chip is a Netmos chip so I ordered a PCI card with a different chip, a Moschip chip. This was not too smart as, after some reading, I learned that Netmos and Moschip are the same thing. Even worse, the card was DOA - so there's 29 bucks wasted. Oh well.
I've identified the serial chip on my old computer's MB. It's an SMSC chip. I can't find any serial PCI cards built with this chip but at least I've verified it's NOT a Moschip (aka Netmos) chip. Next step is to buy a couple cheapie serial PCI cards with non-Netmos chips and see how I make out.
Is this approach sound? Chris

Guy,
Yes, I am using the latest drivers. Hence, my plan to maybe look at another card based on another chip and, presumably, different drivers.
Thanks, Chris

Chis, I recently purchased a new computer that did not have parallel and serial ports on the motherboard. I purchased this PCI card from this seller on eBay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Serial-1-Parallel-...Q2em118Q2el1247
It works well with Cmax. The parallel port even works with security dongles which can be tricky. I am running Windows Vista.

I think I can bring some closure to this topic. First of all, my problem had nothing to do with the serial PCI card. I tried a new card with a different chip and different drivers and no help.
I noticed several of my .BMP files were in color format so I changed them to black and white and this fixed the problem. How I got away with this error using the old computer is beyond me. I had been using those bitmaps for years. Maybe when I built the new computer and backed up the old, I saved some versions of the bitmaps that were no good or old or something. They certainly couldn't have changed to color format on their own.
As I mentioned before, I was downloading the same files off of an external hard drive. The only difference was the two different computers. I'm thinking maybe the difference was the mapping of the bitmaps in the system map. I'm not sure where C-Max stores that data. In any event, the problem is cured for now and maybe I can finally chuck the old computer.
