Could you post the exact router model number that you have? I'm intrigued. I also don't see how you could "ping" a port... ping is an ICMP message and does not reach the application layers in the IP stack. The only thing you can ping is an IP address, but not a specific port.

The redirector (if we're talking about the same thing) is the program running on the PC that emulates a com port. The only problem that it could be causing is if it stays permanently connected to the EPS1's serial port even when you're not using the virtual Com port. Then it would "hog" port 3001 on the EPS1. To test that possibility, use you pc and try to telnet to port 3001 of the EPS1. If it connects ok, then the redirector is not monopolizing the port.

That other device looks like it should be usable with an EPS1. As long as it doesn't need any of the handshaking (DTR, DSR, etc) lines. If you're not sure about that, you could ask the company that makes it.

Router wrt54g version 6 linksys. There is a option to ping. I just typed in the IP with the port # and it came back. I'm playing with this over the web today. There are no other pc's turned on at this point in time.
Works great local but just no wan.

I just did a quick lookup on the net and I see that the wrt54g has NAT capability, but I don't know how this is setup. Maybe someone here has one of these and can give us a few hints?

I could pm you my ip address. It will bring up my configuration manager if that would help. Am I the only oddball that wants to do this?

I could take a quick look if you want, but can't guarantee anything in terms of success. Send me an email (click on my name to see my address) and give me the router's public ip address as well as the configuration login and password (and port number to connect to). Also indicate the EPS1's IP address.

I've had a Lantronix printer EPS1 server connecting my Ocelot to the world for a while now. As others quote you do have to work at it to get everything connected . I have had a persistent issue where every time I want to reconnect a computer (or PDA) to it I have to either power cycle or reboot the server before I can get a connection. I was wondering if anybody else has seen this and if perhaps somebody could post a copy of their EPS1 configuration file that I could try - I am wondering if I have something setup wrong. The ethernet enabled Ocelot is a fab idea and has made many things possible but this is a real limitation in my setup. Any help appreciated as ever.

What exactly do you mean by "EPS1 configuration file"? Is this something you can get from Ezwebcon?

Hi Guy, yes exactly that. One of the options in EZwebcon when you go to the "Action" drop down menu is "extract configuration". Although the IP address would be wrong I figured that the rest of the settings would be correct. Maybe this just is too simplistic and I have to trawl through but it would be great.

Looks good I can read off everything from that. I can already see some differences. Will let you know in a few days if it helps. Thanks for your help as ever.

Hmm. I missed this thread somehow... \:\)

Guy,

Was your command file taken from an EPS1 that you have 'running' a virtual serial port on? There are some settings that seem to be unconfigured, like:

def service "EPS_044AAE_S1" tcpport none

You'd need your tcp port configured (to 3001 or something) so that you can hook in the port redirector, right?

I have been plugging away at a 'foolproof' procedure for configuring the EPS1s automatically (at least scripted). So I started out in a similar fashion, taking a command file dump out of the EPS1. I modified the commands (based on command reference) to suit my needs, then I play back the commands via a telnet connection to the EPS1.

I've also been trying to winnow down the command set to the slimmest minimal set for my needs. I have found what seems to be some tempermental behavior with regards to def and set, and command order etc.

I'm still not there yet, but I'm working to a 'command' template that has a few lines that need to be tailored by device(like IP address, assuming no DHCP), and that's it.

I'm not certain about this, but I think that the raw port number for the serial port on the EPS1 is hardcoded to 3001.

Yes, these boxes are tempermental... I've had to restart more then one EzWebcon session.

Guy,

That's interesting, although Lantronix redirector (3.1) won't let me use any port number less than 4000 (so I use 4000) when I setup the virtual com port IP services. And so I've had to use the 'set tcpport' (or use EZWEBCON) to set the port number of the serial service to 4000 to match. Without that, I couldn't get a connection (which makes sense).

Our favorite EPS1s seem to have gotten scarce recently. I have been trying to grab another one of those 'lot of 5' sales on ebay for a while now...no dice.

Shoulda bought a few more lots the last time around. There are some one-sey two-seys, but nowhere near the 5 dollar price tags.
