A new twist here for interfacing my automobile to my Leopard.
I really wanted to get my car to automatically open my garage doors, turn on lights etc. with no button pushes. I think I have found an extremly simple and inexpensive way to do it. I have literally taped a 12VDC bulb to a "Eagle Eye" MS14A. It is a Ir detector and is wireless. I connected the bulb to my brake lights in the car and I'm home free! It works very well in the car so far. 30 lines or so of software and so far it works very nicely. RF X-10 connection from my car around $10.!

I'm not quite getting what you have here. It seems like you would be raising/lowering the door repeatedly whenever you move the car, every time you touch the brakes.

Sounds like a prescription for disaster.

Also sounds like a security issue. Anyone with a wireless X10 device could open your door.

Perhaps you have worked out these kinks. Can you give more info?

Thanks,
Nathan

Actually with some good IF/THEN logic and timers, you could create a pretty reliable system. If your system knows whether the garage door is currently open or closed, you could have the received RF signal only open the door if it is currently closed, and also trigger a timer to lock out any additionnal RF transmissions for a while, if you're busy moving the car forward or back and tapping the brakes when pulling in.

There remains the problem of the security of using X10 RF. You might add a timing element to the routine whereby the signal needs to be received twice within a certain time interval or something like that.

No doubt there are a hundred acceptable solutions. But I am very interested to see what is actually found to work well in the real-world.

Cheers,
Nathan

Another member, named BraveSirRobbin has created a similar car presence project using a palmpad and a bit more electronics. You can see his project here:

Yes I have most of your suggestions running in code. Also my entire security stuff relies on an occupancy timer. If no motion in the house for 12 hours nothing serious will work as in the garage doors. I have the brake pedal transmitter start a timer but only if the timer was at zero so no retriggering. After 10 minutes in winter the door closes.

Yes I have an open door detector along with switches so when I ask for door closing that is all that is possible. I cannot see the door from the house so that is mandatory. Also two closing commands late in the evening. Two in case the door was half open or half closed.
